HANGING GARDEN AND WATERFALL OF LILLAFÜRED
The hanging garden with a terrace, located under the Palace Hotel offers unrivalled sights in every season for the lovers of nature, romanticism and arts.
The route along the Hanging Garden is a “thematic path” consisting of 9 stops, connected to Szinva educational pathway. The specific stops are about poetry, poets, scientists and love, but the natural and artificially built environmental elements are sufficiently emphasized, as well. On the terrace of poetry, one can find the statue of Attila József, at which a remarkable memory of this great figure of Hungary and the admiration of poetry is set by some lines of his poem title “Ode”, engraved into a rock.
On the terrace of the waterfall, we can admire the highest waterfall of the country, which is the 20-meter-high Szinva Waterfall.
The Hanging Garden offers wonderful sights in every season, and the Anna’s Cave opens from its lowest terrace. According to a plaque placed by the town beautifiers at the entrance to the cave, Sándor Petőfi visited Lillafüred in 1847. In his travel letters, he wrote enthusiastically how fascinated he was by the landscape, comparing it to Switzerland and Helvetia in particular. As a result, several guidebooks refer to this unique natural formation as Petőfi Cave instead of Anna Cave
